Sébastien Delahaye

Sebastien Delahaye’s work is entitled "WOUNDS".

A wound is the reminder of a suffering (physical, psychic or both) that we experience, somehow, in our lives. Our body and mind have memory and the accumulation of memories create our history. History leaves scars which are evidence of our existence. Wounds and sufferings we face through life, put one after the other, create a timeline. Each part of it can be experienced and analysed in different ways. Some people will find a positive outcome, a force, while others will never be able to do the mourning as a burden nailing their sentences.

Instead of showing wounds as we see them on a daily basis, Sebastien treats that in an abstract and singular way, making it slightly more mysterious. He proceeds by accumulation and juxtaposition of contrasting shapes and objects. His paintings can refer to a specific wound like a fracture, the death of a loved one... or can be related to a wider subject such as war or religion. Each painting can also summarize the way of life of a person alternating quiet and chaotic moments, joyful and dark periods, internal and/or external conflicts. Sebastien’s work is a representational attempt of our emotions, a metaphor of the human life’s diversity, projected onto a surface. Each painting is a wound, a story, numbered among countless others and is open to interpretation.
